Italian Scream Queen Ania Pieroni acted in few films, but those in that she did appear are all very memorable. She played a medical student in Dario Argento's Inferno (1980), then wowed us as the decapitated babysitter in Lucio Fulci's House By The Cemetery (1981), before taking a stand-out victim role in Argento's slasher classic Tenebrae (1982). |

Didn't act in enough films to hone her skills above the norm. Didn't really matter - she gave what was required when the director turned the screw. A stunning beauty with distinctive eyebrows and piercing blue/green eyes. Not much nudity in her filmography. Good scream though. |

Didn't venture far from the exploitation scene, so not the best acting ability. Zora made up for that by looking great - an all-natural blonde Euro babe, not afraid to show her bodily assets. Or have them impaled on spikes. Screaming skills put to good use in Lenzi's Ferox. |

A fine-looking woman and a competent actress. Pale and waif-like, with dark red hair, Keaton demonstrates to all Scream Queens how to act under extreme duress, and still come out with their dignity intact. Her performance in I Spit is unlikely to be surpassed by any other actress. |

Famed for her short hair and cute tomboy looks, Annie Belle is known mostly for her role as the seductive Lisa in Ruggero Deodato's twisted rape/revenge thriller House On The Edge of the Park (1980). For that movie alone she is etched into the history of exploitation cinema. Annie can also be seen in the sequel to Anthropophagus: Joe D'Amato's lacklustre Absurd (1981), and in a variety of European sexploitation classics, including
Bacchanales Sexuelles (1974),
Annie (aka Laure, 1976),
Velluto Nero (aka Black Emanuelle, White Emanuelle, 1976) and
Nana (1982) and The Alcove (1984).

Took on mostly frivolous roles in insubstantial movies, but completely redeems herself in House On The Edge of the Park. Liberal with her nude scenes, Annie Belle has stirred the loins of many an exploitation movie geek and remains a genre favourite to this day. |

Number 6. Patricia Tallman |
Patricia Tallman's first acting role was in George A Romero's weird biker movie Knightriders (1981). She had a small part in Romero's Monkey Shines (1988), before busting out with a stand-out performance in Tom Savini's under-rated remake of
Night of the Living Dead (1990). Tallman also had a minor role as a
witch in Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness (1992)

Tallman is a good actress and is excellent playing terrified. Her short, flame red hair makes her look distinctive and sexy. Little to speak of in terms of nude appearences, but her heaving shirt in NOTLD gave us something to sit up and take notice of. Excellent screaming skills. |

English rose Susan George started out in small TV and movie roles in the 1960s. When she tured eighteen (and was therefore of age) she branched-out into horror/exploitation films and made appearences in Michael Reeves' The Sorcerers (1967),
Fright (1971) and
Die Screaming, Marianne (1971). The highlight of George's horror career, though, was as the tormented and molested Amy, playing opposite Dustin Hoffman in Sam Peckenpah's
gritty rape drama Straw Dogs (1971).

Worked hard during the Sixties, so by the time the Seventies came along she was a honed and credible actress. Directors loved George's innocent looks and took every opportunity to show off her stunning body, culminating in the eye-popping rape scenes
as seen in Straw Dogs. |

Dark, demure Caroline Munro was young and innocent in her early movies, becoming super sultry later. She went (briefly) topless for Hammer in Dracula AD 1972, but generally didn't strip off too much. Though softly spoken, Munro does possess a really good scream. |

Number 3. Barbara Crampton |
A legend of sick horror cinema, Barbara Crampton is best known for her role as Megan Halsey in Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator (1985). Crampton gave horror fans what they wanted in this film: a hot, naked chick being molested by a headless corpse! It really put her on the map. After this came Chopping Mall (1986), then another Stuart Gordon/HP Lovecraft splatter classic:
From Beyond (1986), followed by Puppet Master (1989) and Trancers II (1991). Crampton joined up with Stuart Gordon one more time in 1995 for the relatively lightweight Castle Freak. |

Cracking blonde Barbara starred in a number of sexploitation comedies - Body Double (1984) and Fraternity Vacation (1985) - before getting into horror, so her awesome body has been immortalized in a few films. As has her scream - heard to its best effect in Re-Animator. |

Jessica Biel is part of a new breed of female actors that exude a well-read seriousness, a modern sense of humour, and a body to die for. So far, Biel's Scream Queen career has been pretty limited - her only notable horror role being in the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). And what a remake it is too! Biel is excellent as the Marilyn Burns character and comes from nowhere to steal the show with some terrific acting and a wardrobe that really shows off her stunning figure. Biel also starred in
Blade Trinity (2004), but is generally underused in horror. We'd love to see Jessica take the Scream Queen concept further - she's more than capable.

Staggeringly beautiful, though reluctant to strip off. Possibly demands no nudity clauses in contracts. A real pity, since Jessica does have one of the best bodies in the business. A serious actress (Biel even produces), with serious screaming skills - Jessica Biel is one hell of a talent. |

Marilyn Burns redefined the role of the Scream Queen with her part as Sally Hardesty in Tobe Hooper's groundbreaking
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Burns is totally believable as the tormented victim, accentuating the film's grim dementia with her incessant screams. Texas also sees Burns in her absolute prime - a stunningly beautful woman with a great figure. Burns returned to the grindhouse scene later - with (ex-boyfriend) Tobe Hooper - in Eaten Alive (aka Death Trap, 1977). And once again she showed us why she is arguably the best horror film actress of all time. |

Didn't do a great deal of acting, but was always outstanding in the horror roles she played. Despite her amazing figure, Burns never stripped-off fully. She went part way in Eaten Alive, and gave us at least two good things to look at in Texas, but her screaming skills make up for that. |
